Todd says he was in Texas by 1845 (mis-indexed as Harles F). In 1850 as CF Haswell he was there with wife Maria and daughter Frances aged 12. He was of Houston when on 2 Jan. 1859, he put in a claim with the state of Texas, based on brother Alfred's service.

He divorced May 1860.

Charles remarried 17 June 1860 to a 15-year-old English girl, and was murdered 1 Jun. 1865 at Milliken, Texas, "lamented by his wife and sons", being buried in the Weaver family cemetery.

According to Todd Farmerie - As no sons are known of the first wife, these would probably be children of the second. Their identity remains unknown, although a possibility is a Charles A. Haswell, b. ca. 1865 in Texas, living in Memphis in 1880 as step-son of John G. Burke, whose wife Marion E. was of English birth.
