She was known to my father's family as Aunt Lottie. She married William Rawlinson, living near Cartmel in the Lake District, first at Enerigg, then at Beckside. then Croftside.
According to Gwen Bayly, she had seen a newspaper article about her husband to be William Rawlinson, and his strength, carrying a heavy weight in a competition (coal?) and was so taken with him that she took things from there. (Gwen didn’t say how!)
My father, his brother and sister, and parents often stayed there, and the families were close. According to my mother, she had a sharp wit,, and was very personable. She did wood-carving- I have three unfinished panels, and a carved occasional table which was passed on from Gwen. William entered local shows etc. with his produce. Gwen remembers her holidays there as being idyllic, and when she felt depressed used to imagine walking through the gardens there. My father remembers as a small boy [probably when Gwen was born] being sat with his brother in a ring of bottles and told by Uncle William not to go out of the circle, while they went to church. As he was very small, the inevitable happened; and he was in trouble when they came back from church to find a large wet patch on the floor!
